Battle of the Black Wash

The Battle of the Black Wash was a tremendous battle that occurred in the mountains near Makla (specifically, right near the Bloodyfoot mining camp controlled by House Kish) in the Year of the Dragon’s Vengeance (10 years ago) between the Nibenese legion sent to seize Urik’s obsidian mines and a portion of a Urikite legion commanded by General Akkad. The battle resulted in the total loss of the Nibenese legion, ending Nibenay’s ambitions in the north and bringing the war to a swift close.

A famous and heroic point in Urikite history, the Battle of the Black Wash was memorialized in a rousing song that is very popular in Urik’s taverns and public spaces:

Verse 1:
During the “Nibenese war of aggression” ten years ago, the Nibenese sent a legion to seize the obsidian mines far in the north. They did so and oppressed the residents of Makla and the miners in the various surrounding camps.

Chorus:
“The Nibenese, the Nibenese, as lava filled the crack
Their green and purple uniforms were burnt to crispy black.”

Verse 2:
The mul General Akkad was handpicked by King Hamanu to repel the Nibenese. He brought his legion north. The Nibenese allied with the Smoking Crown Initiates, who were intimately familiar with the area, and melted into the hills and began to raid caravans and camps all over the region. General Akkad was hard-pressed to prevent these attacks and was forced to divide his army to protect the various camps and caravans.

Chorus:
“The Nibenese, the Nibenese, as lava filled the crack
Their green and purple uniforms were burnt to crispy black.”

Verse 3:
Finally he encountered the Nibenese forces at the Black Wash. However, he only had a third of his strength, and the entire Nibenese army had maneuvered into place.

Chorus:
“The Nibenese, the Nibenese, as lava filled the crack
Their green and purple uniforms were burnt to crispy black.”

Verse 4:
General Akkad had a clever plan, and lured the Nibenese into the Black Wash before having the templar Abad called the power of Hamanu to crack the Rim of Dawn volcano. Molten magma flowed down the slopes, filling the Wash, and incinerated the Nibenese.

Chorus:
“The Nibenese, the Nibenese, as lava filled the crack
Their green and purple uniforms were burnt to crispy black.”

Verse 5:
General Akkad was hailed as a hero and a genius and, with the Nibenese power in the north crushed, Urik went on to decisively win the war.

Chorus:
“The Nibenese, the Nibenese, as lava filled the crack
Their green and purple uniforms were burnt to crispy black.”
